- Drag export to your DAW
REXPlayer is a handy Rex file and slice sample player for the Mac. It provides all the tempo flexibility you expect with Rex files in a fast, modern app that let’s you play any Rex file and play the individual slices.
Key Features
Use REXPlayer anytime you need to quickly listen to Rex files. Use it along side your favorite Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) as a great way to audition files and slices before importing them into your project. You’ll find REXPlayer useful even if your DAW already supports Rex files.
Intuitive Controls and Rex Flexibility
Hands-on controls with visual display
Use REXPlayer’s intuitive controls with all of Rex’s flexibility when auditioning files. In many DAWs, a dialog box is all you get to preview Rex files before importing them – no controls, no waveform display, no ability to play the slices, and no tempo control to see how the file might feel at different tempos. Get hands-on control with REXPlayer.
Instant access to the individual slices
REXPlayer gives each of the Rex slices its own MIDI note number, so you can immediately play the slices from your MIDI controller to get creative with the slices and decide if this file is right for your project before you import it. Even the MIDI routing is simple and direct in REXPlayer.
SliceKeys
No MIDI controller handy? Use SliceKeys to trigger slices from your computer keyboard instead – great for laptop users on the move!
Drag and Drop Simplicity
Opens and loads fast
DAWs are great, but they are generally large, complex apps with slow load times. REXPlayer is purpose built to play Rex files fast. Drop some files on its window and you can audition several before your DAW has even opened.
Get out of the dialog box…
If you work with Rex files, you may have hundreds or thousands quietly tucked away in folders because navigating through folders in a dialog box to audition them is less than inspiring – especially when you’re in a groove.
With REXPlayer, just drop entire folders full of Rex files and have hundreds queue’d up and ready to play, making it easy to find your loops, play the slices, and get back to creating your music.
…and back to making music
When you find the right file, just drag it directly from REXPlayer into your DAW – no need to jump back to the Finder to relocate the file … though RexPlayer makes that easy, too.
Made for your Mac
CoreAudio
REXPlayer takes advantage of Apple’s powerful CoreAudio technology to auto-locate your Mac’s audio interface and lock to its sample rate - no complicated setup or preferences to manage. Use your Mac’s built-in audio output or any compatible audio interface.
CoreMIDI
Select any available MIDI input to trigger the individual slices within a Rex file. Slices are automatically laid out for your MIDI controller to trigger sampler style.
Drag and Drop
Drop a file, a few files, a folder, or even a few folders full of Rex files on to REXPlayer. The files and its slices are ready to play nearly instantly.

Just what I need to listen to .rx2 files ★★★★★
The easiest way to audition the files. Everything I tried to make it easy failed. This just works. Ofcourse tighter integration would be cool, but them worlds are far apart, this is a bridge that helps in the meantime.
It does exactly what it claims to do… Fast, simple and reliable… If You are searching for a way to listen to your rex files, outside Reason, with the same agility You’re used to do inside it, look no further. The only thing I missed (and missed a lot) was a volume control straight in the app (this explains my 4 stars instead of 5). Beside of that, It works like a breeze. Congrats for Method Red. Peace out.
